According to the sent to The Ameh News (TAN) which was endorsed
by Reuben Muoka, Director, Public Affairs of the Commission sayings The NCC
wishes to inform the public that this account was created by malicious
individuals with the intention of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public
and social media users who might mistake it for the genuine account of the EVC
of NCC.
He said the NCC wants to clarify that Prof. Umar Garba
Danbatta does not have a LinkedIn account, and any such account found on social
media or any other platform claiming to belong to the EVC of NCC is fake. The
commission is taking the matter seriously and is collaborating with relevant
security agencies to investigate the source of this fraudulent act and put a
stop to it.
In light of this situation, the director said the NCC
advises the public and stakeholders to exercise caution and vigilance while using
social media platforms or engaging in online activities. There are numerous
fraudulent individuals and groups looking for unsuspecting users to defraud, so
it is essential to be careful when accessing or using information from social
media.
“The NCC reassures the public that it has a strong online
presence with its official website (www.ncc.gov.ng) and verified social media
handles. All information about the commission’s activities, programs, and
reports can be verified on these platforms.
“To stay updated with credible information and announcements
from the NCC, the public is encouraged to follow the commission’s official
social media accounts.
In conclusion, the NCC urges everyone to be cautious and
discerning while navigating the cyberspace, and to report any suspicious
accounts or activities to the appropriate authorities. Vigilance is crucial in
protecting oneself from falling victim to online scams and fraudulent
activities, Muoka said.
