USP Brand Management in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Embassy of France, Nigeria, Bank of Industry and TRACE TV is set to host the seventh edition of the Lagos International Festival of Animation, LIFANIMA on Tuesday, October 31 to Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Alliance Francaise, Mike Adenuga Centre, Ikoyi Lagos.
Festival Director, Mr Muyiwa Kayode, who is also the creator
of the multiple award-winning animation series, Turtle Taido, said; “ LIFANIMA
provides the platform for development of African animation and rapid growth of
the animation film industry.”
Over the years, LIFANIMA has seen a steady increase in
submission of films across the categories of 2D animation, 3D animation,
animation commercials, visual effects and stop motion.
He disclosed that the festival will feature screening of
selected works, award presentations, networking and entertainment. It will also
attract animators, local and foreign filmmakers, musical video producers, media
practitioners, digital marketing professionals, government agencies,
information technology/manufacturers and the general public.
Talking about activities for the festival, Kayode said, “ On
Day 1, the festival will feature screening of selected works, and a special
panel session on the historic creative industry intervention fund, Investment
in Digital and Creative Enterprises I-DICE.
“This Federal Government Initiative is a $617 million fund
to support the creative and digital/tech entrepreneurs. Animation is expected
to be a major beneficiary of the fund. Top executives from Bank of Industry,
managers of the fund, will be on a panel session to explain the details about
the fund and the expected impact on the industry.
“On Day 2 of the festival, there will be virtual panel
sessions featuring both local and international animation experts. A special
session titled Animation Production Pipeline with veteran American animator and
producer, Artie Romero.
“The festival comes to an end on Day 3 with a Cocktail
Party, Animation Film Screening, Musical Performances, and Award Presentation.”
“LIFANIMA is endorsed by the Lagos State Film and Video
Censors Board, LSFVCB and this year, the fast-growing festival received 1088
submission from 111 countries, including 24 African countries.” he concludes.
