Many students and parents are feeling anxious as the June/July 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results have not been released yet.
The non-release of the June/July 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) has generated anxiety among students and parents.
The SSCE, which was conducted by the National Examinations
Council (NECO) is required by many of the students to process their admission
into higher education.
Investigations revealed that many of the SS3 students wrote
the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) did so as awaiting
results candidates and require the SSCE results to determine their admission
status.
Another reason for the anxiety is that some of the students
wrote the May/June 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination
(WASSCE) and did not get five credits required for admission into the
university, polytechnic and college of education.
Daily Sun however gathered that barring any last minutes
change of decision; the management of NECO is expected to announce the results
this week.
Over 1,205,888 candidates registered for the 2023 SSCE out
of this figure, 601,074 candidates were male while 584,814 were female.
The council commenced marking of the 2023 school-based SSCE
answer scripts early last month and the exercise ended on September 28th.
The Head of Information and Public Relations of NECO, Mr.
Azeez Sani, had earlier stated that the council plans to release the SSCE
results by the end of September.
However, an online report said NECO has postponed the
release of 2023 Results to Thursday, 5th October 2023; this is to ensure
transparency and error free access to the portal.
“All candidates and stakeholders are advised to stay calm
and await the official release of results on the portal.”
Anxious students and parents have continued to wait for NECO
to release the SSCE results without further delay.
A parent, Mr. Oyetoro Falade, whose son requires the result
for admission, said the family is anxiously waiting for NECO to announce the
release of the result.
“My son scored 256 in the 2023 UTME. He didn’t do well in
WAEC and our hope is on this NECO result. It is taking them long to release the
result. We are anxiously waiting for the result because his first university
would soon start the admission exercise,” Falade stated.
Another parent, Mr. James Okpara, told Daily Sun that his
son hopes for admission this year is on NECO SSCE result because his WASSCE
result was not released in August.
According to him, the son is worried about the delay in
release of the SSCE result and needs it to process admission in Olabisi
Onabanjo University, whose post-UTME registration would soon end.
Some of the students told Daily Sun that the delay has
created anxiety and the result is their only hope to secure admission this
year.
Seventeen-year-old, Lekan Oguntade, said NECO delay is
threatening his admission chances because he needs the result to process his
admission in a polytechnic.
He said: “My admission depends on the early release of the
SSCE result. I didn’t do well in WASSCE as two of my major subjects were
withheld. Why is NECO delaying the release of the result? Many students are
worried about the delay.”
Another worried student, Falola Samuel said, ” I don’t know
why NECO is delaying the SSCE result. I learnt they have finished marking since
last month. Since this month I have been waiting for the release of the result.
“Most universities have started admissions and many students
are anxiously waiting for the SSCE results. I applied to a university as an
awaiting result candidate and with 237 in UTME, I don’t want to miss admission
this year.”
A senior staff of NECO assured candidates that the SSCE
results would be released soonest as the process to release the 1.2million
results have been completed.
