Joeboy Speaks on Domestic Violence Against Women in Africa

Popular singer Joseph Akinfenwaa Donus, aka Joeboy, has revealed the inspiration behind his hit song ‘Better.’

The singer explained that he wrote the song in a bid to shed light on domestic violence against women.

He disclosed this in a recent interview with popular media personality, Vivz.

Joeboy stated that sometimes women are not treated “properly” in African society.

The host said: “‘Better’ is my favourite song ever. In that song, it’s like you’re speaking up for a woman that has been treated badly by another man.”

Joeboy said: “It’s something that happens a lot in African society; domestic abuse. Sometimes women are maltreated and not treated properly. I wanted to shed light on domestic violence against women.”

Joeboy gained popularity under emPawa Africa, a record label owned by Mr Eazi.

In 2021, the singer released his debut album ‘Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic’. Since then, he has established himself as a household name in the music industry.

He has also won several awards and recognition for his craft.

In 2019, he won the ‘Best Artiste in African Pop’ prize at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

The singer also bagged the ‘Best Pop’ category at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival 2020.

In February, he announced his exit from emPawa Africa and unveiled his music label called ‘Young Legend’.
