Orion Minerals, an Australian mining company, will be participating in the upcoming Critical Minerals Africa Summit.
Mr. Errol Smart, the Chief Executive Officer of Orion Minerals, will be participating in the forthcoming Critical Minerals Africa (CMA) Summit, which will be held in Cape Town from November 6 to 7. Mr. Smart is anticipated to discuss the Australian mining company's contribution to the development of the energy transition minerals industry in South Africa and to pinpoint potential areas for further investment.
In South Africa, Orion Minerals is executing a comprehensive exploration and infrastructure development strategy to achieve its objective of commencing copper sales by 2025. Recently, the company made a significant discovery of high-grade copper deposits within the Flat Mines area of the Okiep Copper Project situated in Northern Cape Province. To secure the necessary funding for mine development, Orion Minerals is diligently conducting a feasibility study. With an estimated 9.4 million tons of copper reserves at 1.3% copper content at Flat Mines, this project holds the potential to solidify South Africa's position as a prominent supplier of this crucial mineral.
CMA 2024 serves to position Africa as the primary investment destination for critical minerals. The event is held alongside the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energy 2024 conference (https://AECWeek.
Last month, Orion Minerals secured R43.7 million (US$2.4 million) from South Africa’s Industrial Development Corporation to acquire a controlling stake in the Okiep Copper Project, supporting ongoing exploration and accelerating mine development towards the 2025 production goal. The company has also begun trial mining at its Prieska Copper Zinc Mine project in the Northern Cape, as part of efforts to fast-track the rollout of the 2.4 million metric tons per annum project.
Orion Minerals has demonstrated a robust commitment to fortifying South Africa's critical mineral value chain and augmenting value-added activities. The company is diligently conducting feasibility studies for the Jacomynspan Battery Metals Project, which endeavors to furnish high-grade nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE-gold to the Stratega Metals Vapor Refining Project. Notably, the latter project is poised to become South Africa's pioneering refinery facility dedicated to battery materials. At CMA 2024, Smart will actively engage in high-level panel discussions that illuminate the company's project portfolio, investment strategy, and prospective partnership opportunities.
