The Tourism Minister, Ambassador Nasise Chali, highlighted that the unveiling of Lucy's (Dinkinesh) remains has showcased Ethiopia's genuine birthplace of humanity to the global community. Lucy was unearthed on 24 November, 1974, in Hadar, located in the Afar Region of Ethiopia.

The 50th anniversary of Lucy's discovery was commemorated at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in attendance. During the event, the minister pointed out that Ethiopia has yielded human fossils dating back from 7 million years to 200 thousand years.

She emphasized that Lucy's fossil, dated to have existed 3.2 million years ago, presents a remarkable historical milestone.

Furthermore, she stressed that Lucy's discovery solidifies Ethiopia's position as the cradle of mankind, highlighting the country's importance in the research of human fossil origins.

Ambassador Nasise emphasized that the primary objective behind marking the 50th anniversary of the discovery of Lucy's remains is to highlight Ethiopia as the authentic birthplace of humanity.

It is crucial to present proof of numerous discoveries supporting Ethiopia's claim, she noted. The minister further mentioned that the celebration of Lucy will persist with a series of diverse events.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, ministers, along with Professor Donald Johnson, the renowned discoverer of Lucy's remains, and various scholars from around the globe were present at the occasion.
