In response to recent media reports, Microsoft clarified that it is consolidating its retail channels in mainland China. This decision is part of our ongoing efforts to optimize our operations and enhance customer experience in the world’s second-largest economy.
Microsoft declined to comment on the potential store
closures and the number of authorized stores that would be affected by the
consolidation, in response to a request for comment from Reuters.
"After careful consideration and evaluation of our
retail strategy, Microsoft has determined that it is necessary to adjust our
approach in Mainland China to better align with the evolving needs of our
esteemed customers. We have made the strategic decision to concentrate our
channel efforts in this region to ensure we continue to deliver exceptional
value and meet the expectations of our valued clientele”.
Microsoft products will continue to be accessible in the
mainland through its retail partners and its official website, it added.
Microsoft does not directly operate physical retail
locations in China. The company did not provide details on which retail
partners will continue to carry its products in the Chinese market.
