The Nigerian Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal has approved the withdrawal of the case filed by lawyer Festus Onifade against MultiChoice Nigeria regarding the increase in prices of GOTV and DSTV subscriptions.

Initially, MultiChoice was fined 150 million naira by the tribunal and was required to provide one month of free subscription for violating interim orders. However, MultiChoice appealed the decision and requested a stay of proceedings.

The tribunal had initially rescheduled the case to November, but Onifade decided to withdraw the lawsuit, which was granted by the tribunal without any costs being awarded.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) has approved the withdrawal of a case regarding a subscription price increase against MultiChoice Nigeria.

The decision was made by a panel of three members, with Thomas Okosu leading the tribunal, on Monday. Barrister Festus Onifade requested to withdraw his case against the Pay TV provider, which was granted by the tribunal.

Previously, MultiChoice was prohibited from raising its subscription fees until the hearing and resolution of a motion on notice submitted by Barrister Festus Onifade.

Onifade had taken legal action against MultiChoice Nigeria Ltd and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) regarding the price increase.
