The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated cartons of sexual enhancement medications valued at N12 million in Sokoto.
The Sokoto State Coordinator of the National Agency for Food
and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mr. Garba Adamu, informed the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the agency’s patrol team made the
seizures during routine surveillance operations conducted across markets in
Sokoto and its environs.
Adamu indicated that the products were not registered,
highly unsafe due to hazardous ingredients used in the formulations, and
visually unappealing due to the explicit use of pornographic images on the
packaging.
He earnestly requested the public to refrain from purchasing
such products from unlicensed establishments and instead patronize registered
and safe products from authorized outlets.
“We also call on the general public to always report hawkers
and dealers of such products to NAFDAC, as well as report any adverse reactions
they may get from taking such products or any other regulated products.
“Some marketers are in the habit of dumping expired or
about-to-expire products in markets in Sokoto and environs, while some are
taken to border markets and rural areas for consumption,” he said.
The coordinator cautioned traders to refrain from selling
adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered, or expired goods to the public. NAFDAC
will continue to enforce these regulations at all times.
The operation was also expanded to include agrochemical and
cosmetic stores as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to guarantee the
availability of high-quality and authentic products in the market.
He strongly advised Nigerians to consistently verify the
NAFDAC registration levels, as well as the manufacturing and expiration dates
of products prior to their usage.
Adamu expressed his gratitude to sister agencies, law
enforcement agencies, traders’ associations, individuals, and groups for their
unwavering support in assisting NAFDAC in its mission to safeguard public
health.
