NAFDAC has confiscated approximately N20 million worth of prohibited agrochemicals from markets in Sokoto.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and
Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit, substandard, and banned products
valued at over N20 million during a significant operation conducted in major
markets across Sokoto, including Old Market, Kara Market, and Central Market.
The operation conducted by the Investigation and
Enforcement/Federal Task Force on Counterfeit Pharmaceuticals and Adulterated
Processed Foods resulted in the apprehension of four individuals suspected of
engaging in illicit activities.
During a thorough inspection of seventeen retail
establishments, multiple cartons of Endocoton Super were seized due to the
presence of the prohibited substance Paraquat.
Paraquat is a highly hazardous herbicide that poses
substantial health and environmental risks.
Furthermore, the raid led to the confiscation of 2,096
cartons of SF MOE Soap and 223 cartons of SF Oxxo Purest Soap.
Several unregistered herbal preparations with sexually
suggestive imagery, posing a significant public health risk, were also removed.
As per the NAFDAC, the apprehended individuals are currently
undergoing investigation. The confiscated products will be processed in
accordance with the established regulations for substandard and falsified
products.
NAFDAC reiterated its prohibition on Paraquat agrochemicals
and pledged to enforce this prohibition stringently.
The Agency kindly requests the public to promptly report any
suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office. This
cooperation is crucial in our collective efforts to combat the distribution of
potentially hazardous and illicit products.
