The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and relevant stakeholders have jointly announced the implementation of revised tariff increases for healthcare services.
The National Health Insurance Authority and relevant stakeholders have reached a consensus on a revised pricing framework for medicines and services.
The acting Director of Media and Public Relations at the
NHIA, Emmanuel Ononokpono, made this disclosure in a press release issued on
Wednesday.
The consensus was reportedly achieved during a stakeholder
engagement session held in Abuja.
The meeting concluded with a consensus to increase the
capitation by 60% and the Fee-For-Service by 40%.
Capitation and Fee-For-Service are two payment methodologies
used to reimburse healthcare providers for services provided to beneficiaries
under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The newly implemented tariffs, applicable to the current
services provided under the National Health Insurance Act (NHIA), are effective
immediately.
It was mutually understood that the newly implemented
pricing structure does not affect the results of the ongoing actuarial
assessments commissioned by the authority.
The actuarial studies report is anticipated to be completed
in September.
The meeting, attended by representatives from the
Association of Private Medical Practitioners, the Health Maintenance
Organizations, the Guild of Medical Directors, and other critical stakeholders
in the health insurance industry, resulted in a six-point communique outlining
a series of resolutions.
To ensure transparency and foster collaboration, the forum
will convene quarterly meetings to remain abreast of industry advancements and
align its strategies accordingly.
In his remarks, the Director General of the National Health
Insurance Authority, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, emphasized the paramount importance of
ensuring that enrollees have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare
services. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of Nigerian
citizens above all other considerations, thereby fostering a collaborative
environment conducive to achieving the organization’s objectives.
In order to achieve the objective of universal health
coverage, it is essential that all stakeholders collaborate effectively. The
authority is committed to fostering close and cordial relationships with all
relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of this endeavor, Dr. Ohiri emphasised.
Ohiri stated that the National Health Insurance Authority
(NHIA) values the input and collaboration of its stakeholders in achieving the
objective of Universal Health Coverage.
