Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, has formally announced a homecoming concert in Benin, Edo State.

The “Ozeba” crooner made this announcement via a social media post on Friday, revealing that he will perform in his hometown.

The concert is scheduled to take place on August 30 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The announcement was made following the debut of Rema's second album 'Heis'. The album achieved the highest number of first-week streams on Spotify Nigeria in 2024.

As per Turntable Charts, ‘Heis’ garnered 12.3 million streams during its initial week of release.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo had announced plans to host the music star for a homecoming event on December 21, following a year.

Unfortunately, Rema had to cancel all his December 2023 shows due to health concerns. On November 14, 2023, Rema shut down his “Ravage Uprising” 02 Arena show in London alongside All Star Mavin artistes.

The sold-out show of 20,000 capacity witnessed the presence of Nigerian celebrities and fans who traveled all the way to London for the event, which can be described as another celebration of Afrobeats, highlighting the genre’s energy, diversity, and global appeal.

Rema joined other award-winning Nigerian artistes like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake who have already sold the arena.

Rema, who joined D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a branch of Mavin Records, in 2019, has risen to prominence as a key figure in the African music scene.

He was honored with the titles of ‘Best Male Artiste’ and ‘Digital Artiste Of The Year’ at the 16th Headies.

Additionally, in December 2023, Spotify acknowledged him as one of the top exported artists who made a significant impact on the year’s charts in sub-Saharan Africa.
