Renard has proposed a monthly compensation of $180,000 (N253 million)for his services as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
The NFF will face significant financial challenges in
securing the services of highly sought-after coach Herve Renard for the Super
Eagles, as it may require substantial negotiations and potentially exceeding
the allocated budget.
The French coach's request for a monthly salary of $180,000
and additional conditions has been brought to our attention.
A top official said, “Yes, the NFF have made contact with
Renard for the Super Eagles job, but the biggest stumbling block is that he is
demanding a salary of $180,000 (a month), which in Naira is almost close to 300
Million.
“This will be the highest ever paid to a coach and the NFF
just cannot afford this.
“This may well be a wild goose chase.”
It has been reported that Egypt has offered Renard a $1.9
million contract, while his name has been mentioned as a potential candidate
for the position of head coach of the United States men’s national soccer team.
The seasoned 54-year-old football coach has achieved
remarkable success in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), leading both Zambia
and Cote d’Ivoire to championship victories.
It is important to note that the previous foreign coach of
the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, accepted a significant reduction in his
compensation in order to extend his contract until the postponed AFCON
tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Initial compensation for the Super Eagles coach,
Peseiro, was $70,000 per month. However, this amount was subsequently reduced
to $50,000 per month. Additionally, there were instances where Peseiro’s salary
was in arrears for up to 13 months.
It Is the responsibility of the Nigerian Football Federation
(NFF) to secure funding for a foreign coach for the national team, as stated by
Sports Minister John Enoh.
