The United States women’s basketball team will compete against Nigeria in the knockout stage of the Olympic women’s basketball tournament.

The reigning champions, the United States, will face the history-making Nigerian team in the quarterfinals of the women’s basketball competition at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday, as determined by the draw conducted on Sunday.

The Nigerian team has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first African nation to reach the last eight of an Olympic basketball tournament, encompassing both men’s and women’s competitions.

However, they will face a formidable challenge against the American team, which has demonstrated dominance by securing the last seven titles.

Nigeria secured their position in the quarterfinals by defeating Canada with a score of 79-70 on Sunday. Concurrently, the United States team emerged victorious against Germany with a score of 87-68, with notable contributions from Jackie Young, who scored 19 points, and A’ja Wilson, who contributed 14 points.

The host nation, France, which achieved the bronze medal at the Tokyo Games three years ago, will compete against Germany, while Spain will face Belgium.

The opening match on Wednesday will feature Serbia against Australia.

The knockout stages of both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will take place in Paris, following the conclusion of the group stage matches held near the northern city of Lille.
