Education Minister Tahir Mamman has asserted that technical colleges should exclusively cater to students who have a genuine interest in technical education.

The Federal Government has initiated plans to reassess the merger of federal technical colleges with science schools in the nation, aiming to separate them.

During a one-day stakeholders' meeting addressing the challenges and issues facing technical colleges, Minister Mamman expressed his dissatisfaction with the amalgamation of these institutions, stating that it undermined the progress made in establishing technical colleges throughout the country.

He clarified that technical colleges should be dedicated solely to those pursuing technical education, while students interested in science programs should attend traditional colleges to continue their studies, deeming the merger a significant error.

Furthermore, Mamman lamented the low enrollment rates in technical colleges, emphasizing their role in imparting skills necessary for the country's transformation.
