Samuel Ogazi, a teenage sprinter from Nigeria, has successfully advanced to the final of the men's 400m event at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Competing in the third semi-final, Ogazi secured third place
with a time of 44.41 seconds, thereby achieving a Personal Best in the process.
The semi-final was won by Matthew Hudson-Smith from Great
Britain, who finished in 44.07 seconds, while Michael Norman from the United
States claimed second place with a time of 44.26 seconds.
At just 18 years old, Ogazi, who previously resided in
Kaduna, accepted a scholarship in 2023 to pursue his studies at the University
of Alabama.
His athletic accomplishments include participation in the
4x400m relay at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships held in Cali,
Colombia.
Additionally, he triumphed in both the 200m and 400m events
at the 2023 African U18 and U20 Championships in Ndola, Zambia.
Furthermore, he secured gold medals in the 200m and 400m
races at the Athletics events during the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in
Trinidad and Tobago, where he also contributed to his Nigerian team's victory
in the mixed 4x100m relay, setting a new games record.
