Thugs engaged in the theft of valuable assets worth millions of naira from the NCC Industrial Park located in Kano.
The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park
in Kano, which has yet to be officially inaugurated, was vandalized and set on
fire by individuals on Thursday.
This incident has raised significant alarm and condemnation,
particularly from Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications and Digital
Economy, who expressed that this event represents a setback in the nation's
efforts to enhance its technological workforce and generate employment
opportunities for the youth.
The assault on the Industrial Park coincided with the
#EndBadGovernance protests at the Government House in Kano, where demonstrators
voiced their grievances regarding the prevailing hardships and hunger in the
country. In response to the situation, Dr. Tijani conveyed his disappointment
on X (formerly Twitter), remarking, “It is unfortunate to hear that our Digital
Innovation Park in Kano, scheduled for launch next week to bolster our
technical talent accelerator (3MTT), has been destroyed and looted by protesters.
This facility was also set to host our buildathon holiday maker programme for secondary school students starting next week. This represents a minor setback in our mission to strengthen our technological workforce and create job opportunities for the youth, resulting in millions of Naira lost.”
The NCC Industrial Park was intended to be a center for
promoting digital innovation and offering technical training to young
Nigerians.
The attack occurs just days before its planned inauguration,
thereby delaying the launch of the technical talent accelerator (3MTT) and the
buildathon holiday maker programme aimed at secondary school students.
