Mike Edwards, a former Big Brother Naija contestant and two-time Nigerian high jump champion, has achieved a notable victory in his first professional boxing match against Jake Cornish.

The fight took place at the Dublin Arena on Saturday and went the full distance, with Edwards winning by unanimous decision from the judges.

Edwards, who made the surprising announcement of his transition from athletics to professional boxing in April, competed in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division, which is managed by English social media figure and Nigerian-born professional boxer, Olajide Williams, known as KSI.

Following the match, Misfits Boxing shared on X.com, “An impressive MFB debut for #aireyys as he gets the decision victory. Mike Edwards gets his first #MisfitsBoxing win.”

In April, Edwards reaffirmed his commitment to the cruiserweight division of Misfits Boxing, marking a significant shift from his background in track and field.

He said, “Breaking News: Excited to announce my entry into the world of professional boxing! Thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division roster on #MisfitsBoxing. Get ready for an electrifying debut as I step into the ring to showcase my skills and determination.”
