Renowned Nigerian Islamic artist, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has passed away. She was cherished by the Muslim community for her musical contributions.

Rukayat, renowned for her contributions to Islamic music, was declared deceased in the early hours of Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

The specific cause of her death has not yet been determined. Jubril Gawat, a member of the Gawat family and a media aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the news via a tweet early on that Tuesday morning.

It has been reported that her burial will take place later today, in accordance with Islamic customs and practices.

Rukayat was married to insurance expert Alhaji Shakiri Oyefeso.

She was celebrated as one of Nigeria's foremost Islamic musicians, known for her strong advocacy for women's roles within the home, a theme frequently highlighted in her music.
