The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA), through the Competitive Enterprise Development Project (CEDP), has enhanced the training programs in Uganda’s hospitality and tourism sector by donating two vital vehicles to the Uganda Hotel & Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI).

Doreen Katusiime, the Permanent Secretary of MTWA, formally presented a modern mobile catering truck and a driver training vehicle to UHTTI.

These vehicles were accepted by Mr. Richard Kawere, Principal of UHTTI, and are designed to provide students with essential driving and catering skills, effectively linking theoretical education with practical application.

These additions signify a major advancement in UHTTI’s practical training resources.

The driver training vehicle will offer students valuable hands-on experience, which is essential for those who will be navigating Uganda’s diverse landscapes within the tourism industry.

On the other hand, the mobile catering truck will enable students to develop skills in providing culinary services in various settings, a crucial competency in the rapidly changing tourism landscape.

These vehicles are part of the Competitive Enterprise Development Project (CEDP), a collaborative effort between the Government of Uganda and the World Bank, executed by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU).

This initiative highlights the government’s dedication to improving the quality of education and training within the tourism sector.

The project seeks to enhance the skill set of graduates by investing in effective training resources, enabling them to thrive in both local and international markets.

Mr. Richard Kawere, Principal of UHTTI, expressed his appreciation for the vehicles, highlighting their crucial role in enriching the practical learning experience for students.

“These vehicles represent a transformative addition to our institute. They will enable us to offer our students invaluable real-world experience, which is vital for their future careers in tourism and hospitality,” Kawere stated.

The Competitive Enterprise Development Project (CEDP) has played a key role in various efforts aimed at enhancing Uganda’s position in the global tourism arena.

This recent donation to UHTTI is anticipated to significantly improve the caliber of graduates and, consequently, elevate the overall service standards within the industry.

As the tourism sector continues to rebound and expand in the aftermath of the pandemic, such initiatives are essential for maintaining Uganda’s status as a premier destination for travelers around the globe.

With these innovative tools, UHTTI is strategically equipped to cultivate the next generation of tourism and hospitality experts who will propel the industry forward.
