Bayern Munich rebounded from their midweek Champions League defeat in Barcelona by decisively defeating Bochum 5-0 away, reclaiming the top position in the league on Sunday.

RB Leipzig had temporarily taken the lead with a 3-1 comeback victory over Freiburg on Saturday, putting them three points clear at the top. However, Bayern responded emphatically, with five different players contributing to the scoreline.

Despite showing promise under new coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern entered Sunday’s match having secured only one win in their previous six outings across all competitions.

Just days after former coach Hansi Flick criticized Bayern's high defensive line in Barcelona, they nearly faced another early setback. Moritz Broschinski managed to outpace Minjae Kim and reach the ball before Manuel Neuer, but his weak shot allowed Kim to clear it off the line.

Bayern opened the scoring with a straightforward free kick from Olise, who curled the ball over the Bochum wall and past a poorly positioned goalkeeper, Patrick Drewes.

Ten minutes later, they doubled their lead from another set piece, with Musiala heading in a free kick delivered by Joshua Kimmich.

The second half saw Bayern unleash their attacking prowess, with Kane, Sane, and Coman all finding the net within a span of 14 minutes.

Kane capitalized on excellent build-up play from Musiala to strike the ball into the top left corner, marking his ninth goal in eight league matches. Sane took advantage of a defensive error from Bochum after 65 minutes, and Coman capped off the rout with a stunning shot that hit the crossbar.

While Bayern sits atop the table on goal difference, Bochum remains at the bottom, having earned just one point from eight matches this season.

Later on Sunday, Union Berlin, currently in fifth place, will face sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt in the German capital, while Heidenheim will host Hoffenheim.
