Prominent music executive and record label founder, Michael Collins Ajereh, widely recognized as Don Jazzy, has expressed his enthusiasm regarding the announcement of his new football club, ‘Supremos FC,’ joining the Lagos Liga 2024.

Several months prior, Don Jazzy reportedly established a football club following the acquisition of his record label, Mavins, by a foreign investor. This development comes just two months after Afrobeat artist Burna Boy inaugurated his football academy.

In August 2024, Burna Boy announced the launch of his football academy, stating on his social media, “Lagos Liga presents an ideal opportunity for me to combine my love for football with my dedication to nurturing talent. I am eager to apply my skills in building successful teams to this beautiful sport.”

Don Jazzy garnered attention earlier this year when a foreign investor took over his record label, Mavins. He co-founded the now-defunct Mo’ Hits Records in 2004 alongside his former partner, Oladapo Oyebanj, known as D’banj. After its closure, he established Mavin Records on May 8, 2012.

Mavin Records has been instrumental in launching the careers of artists such as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Dr SID, D’Prince, and the DNA Twins, among others. Current artists under the label include Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Boy Spice, Bayanni, Rema, Lifesize Teddy, and Ladipoe.

In 2019, Don Jazzy celebrated his 37th birthday by unveiling a newly constructed multimillion-naira mansion, named “Mavin Creative Studios,” which serves as the corporate headquarters for Mavin. The label has earned several accolades, including the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Record Label in both 2013 and 2014.

Artists from Mavin Records have also collaborated with international stars such as Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Kelly Rowland, and Chris Brown.
