The finalists for the 2024 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition have been announced, a program organized by the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund. From a total of 1,477 submissions, 1,300 teachers advanced past the initial evaluation, with the final 11 candidates chosen following a comprehensive assessment by a panel of judges.

The notable finalists include Aniefiok Iniobong Udoh from Community Secondary Commercial School in Ikot Oku Ikono, Akwa Ibom State; Nwosu Chinenye Augustina from Anthony Obaze Memorial Community Secondary School in Ogbaru LGA, Anambra State; Ojo Olumuyiwa Olumide from Apex Group of Schools in Ibillo, Akoko Edo, Edo State; and Ojo Olufunke Adewunmi from Praise Worthy Secondary School in Ikota Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Additional strong candidates are Akinyele Samuel from Kingdom Seed International School in Lokoja, Kogi State; Abidoye Aderonke Ibiyemi from Kosofe Senior College in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Lagos State; Esomnofu Chidiebube Ifechukwu from Crown Grace School in Mararaba, Nasarawa State; Kehinde Oladapo Olukayode from Molusi College in Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State; Isaac Michael Ayodele from CAC Grammar School in Akure, Ondo State; Famuyide Florence Bola from Olatunde Comprehensive High School in Owena-Ijesa, Osun State; and Abiodun Regina Nwagbo from Mother’s Joy College in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Sade Morgan, the Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, praised the judges for their meticulous selection process, highlighting the competition's commitment to transparency and fairness. 

She urged the finalists to maintain their high standards as they approach the opportunity to earn the prestigious title of Maltina Teacher of the Year.

Now entering its 10th edition, the competition will conclude with a final round of interviews and evaluations to determine the winner. The grand finale is set for Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Eko Hotel and Suites located in Victoria Island, Lagos. 

During this event, the winner will be announced by the Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Dr. Yussuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education. Additionally, the event will be attended by the Chief Host, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Since its launch, the competition has recognized and rewarded more than 200 teachers for their significant contributions to education in Nigeria.
