In her lawsuit, Abubakar is seeking N30 billion in damages following Rollas's announcement of her suspension via social media. The suspension was attributed to her alleged role in defaming the Nollywood industry.
In a memo issued on Friday, the AGN stated that Abubakar was found "guilty of disseminating false information about fellow members, associates, and patrons, including claims of extramarital relationships with prominent figures."
The guild revealed that a two-year investigation by a special secret panel had uncovered her involvement in slandering the industry.
It further noted that Abubakar would face the national disciplinary committee to determine the extent of her punishment, and she is prohibited from participating in any filming projects during her suspension.
Additionally, the AGN mentioned that the secret panel is looking into other female members who may be implicated in scandals involving Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President.
In response to the allegations, Abubakar stated that she had not been contacted or given a chance to address the claims prior to the announcement.
In a letter dated October 20, 2024, from her legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, she accused the AGN President of intentionally damaging her reputation.
“Our client has been battling health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment during her recovery to spread a false narrative. This has caused her emotional distress and harmed her reputation in society.”
The legal representatives further requested the immediate removal of the defamatory publication on Rollas’ Instagram page, along with an unreserved public apology and a compensation of 30 billion Nigerian Naira for the reputational damage caused.
The letter concluded with a cautionary note, indicating that if the specified demands are not fulfilled within a seven-day timeframe, we will be compelled to initiate appropriate legal proceedings as instructed by our client.
