“Disease” marks the first release from Gaga’s upcoming seventh studio album, which she initially hinted at in July and confirmed in September, coinciding with the launch of “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The new album is scheduled for release in the spring of 2025, as stated in a press announcement.
In the song, Gaga expresses, “I could play the doctor / I can cure your disease. / If you were a sinner / I could make you believe / Lay you don’t like 1, 2, 3 / Eyes roll back in ecstasy / I can smell your sickness / I can cure ya / Cure your disease.”
In a conversation with Vogue, Gaga shared her thoughts on the new album, stating, “I feel like this new album, in a lot of ways, is about that time but from a place of happiness instead of misery.”
Recently, Gaga starred in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which received mixed reviews and did not perform well at the box office. She also released a surprise companion album titled “Harlequin,” inspired by her character in the film. This album features mostly classic American Songbook standards, including “Get Happy,” “That’s Life,” and “That’s Entertainment,” along with a couple of original tracks. “Harlequin” debuted at No. 20 on the overall Billboard 200 chart.
Additionally, her collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” continues to excel on the Billboard Global 200 singles chart, maintaining its position as one of the longest-running No. 1 hits of the year.
Gaga's previous full-length album, “Chromatica,” released in 2020, became her sixth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. It featured the hit singles “Stupid Love” and “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande. Gaga supported the album with a tour, which was later released as a film on Max. Hints about her seventh album were included at the end of the film, featuring a title card that teased its arrival.
