The Nigerian gospel film industry is in a state of mourning due to the passing of a prominent figure, Moses Korede Are, who was widely recognized as "Baba Gbenro" from the renowned Mount Zion series, Abattoir.

The news of the actor's demise was shared by his colleague, Oluwaseun Adejumobi, who made the sorrowful announcement on his verified Instagram account on Thursday.

Adejumobi expressed, “Heaven’s Gain Again. A General Has Gone to Rest.”

Tributes continued to pour in, including a heartfelt message from gospel actor Zoe Adeola, who posted on X,  “Rest in peace, Baba Gbenro. Your role in Abattoir will definitely leave a great memory of you in our minds. So painful.”

Michael Adelakun, a fellow actor and founder of Paramount Ministry, also confirmed the news , stating, “He is dead. Baba has been battling with diabetes for a while now.” However, he was unable to provide details regarding the cause of death at the time of reporting.

Korede Are, known fondly as Baba Gbenro, was born on June 11, 1959. He spent his early years in Kano State, Nigeria, where he received part of his education, later continuing his studies in Plateau State before pursuing higher education in southwestern Nigeria.

After completing his studies, he fulfilled his National Youth Service Corps obligation in Jigawa State.

Baba Gbenro was the founder and International President of Calvary Movies Drama Ministry, established on September 2, 1995, in Ogbomoso, Nigeria. Through this ministry, he utilized drama evangelism to promote the gospel and also served as the CEO of Calvary Movies Television, an online platform dedicated to Christian drama and evangelism.

Throughout his illustrious career, he collaborated with other prominent figures in the gospel film sector, including Toluwalope Israel Adegbo and Evangelist Damilola Mike-Bamiloye. His performance in the series Abattoir solidified his legacy in gospel drama, earning him widespread recognition as “Baba Gbenro.”
