The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding the recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml, which claims to offer 48-hour protection in African climates. This action follows an alert from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products based in Brussels.

In a statement released on Thursday, NAFDAC identified the product's batch number as 93529610.

The agency noted that the recalled Nivea product contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a substance banned in cosmetic items due to its potential risks, including reproductive harm, adverse effects on unborn children, and skin irritation or burns for users.

NAFDAC further indicated that the product is produced in Germany and carries the Bar Code Number 42299882.

The agency urged importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain vigilant and cautious throughout the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the affected Nivea Roll-on with the specified batch number.

“Members of the public in possession of the affected batch should cease sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office, via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, E-reporting platforms available at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or through the Med-safety application available for download on Android and iOS,” it added.
