Eni has launched the Baleine Phase 2 project offshore Côte d’Ivoire, aiming to achieve a production capacity of 60,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 70 million cubic feet of associated gas, equivalent to 2 million cubic meters.

As stated by Eni, the oil produced will be ready for export with the deployment of the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Unit (FPSO) Petrojarl Kong and the Floating Storage and Offloading Unit (FSO) Yamoussoukro during Phase 2. Additionally, all processed gas will be transported via the pipeline constructed in Phase 1 to meet local energy demands.

Phase 1 commenced in August 2023, and activities for Phase 2 have been executed with full safety measures in place. With the initiation of Baleine’s Phase 2 and the ongoing development of Phase 3, which is currently under consideration, total production is projected to reach 150,000 bbl/d of oil and 200 million cubic feet of associated gas.

Baleine represents Africa's first net zero emission Upstream project (Scope 1 and 2), achieved through the implementation of advanced technologies that reduce the carbon footprint of operations, alongside innovative initiatives developed in close cooperation with Ivorian ministries.

Eni has been active in Côte d’Ivoire since 2015, with a current equity production of approximately 22,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). The company operates 10 blocks in the Ivorian deepwaters (CI-101, CI-205, CI-401, CI-501, CI-801, CI-802, CI-504, CI-526, CI-706, and CI-708) in partnership with Petroci Holding.
