Nigerian artist Ice Prince has emphasized that he was the first African musician to accept a BET Award on stage, not Davido.

In 2013, Ice Prince received the Best International Act, Africa award, marking a significant shift from the previous practice of presenting such awards to African artists backstage.

During a recent episode of Listening, he stated, “I am the first African artiste to go on a BET stage and receive an award solo… When you guys talk about it, you guys give that credit to Davido.”

Davido, who claimed the same award in 2018, is particularly noted for his acceptance speech advocating for enhanced collaborations between African and American artists.
