With almost 100% of South Africans saying they are craving a summer getaway, TripAdvisor and Corona have teamed up to offer curated sunset experiences to meet the need
The majority of South Africans have not had a holiday in over a year while almost 100% feel they need a getaway this summer. These are the findings from a recent Corona Consumer Survey conducted ahead of the festive break. As a result, Corona is inviting South Africans to disconnect, unwind in nature, and escape the stresses of everyday life.
Conducted through a dynamic digital out-of-home (DOOH) activation across bustling urban centers in South Africa, the survey highlighted the overwhelming desire among South Africans to relax and unwind. 76% of the people who participated in the survey have not taken a holiday in over a year, with many looking forward to experiences that inspire relaxation and rejuvenation. However, barriers such as financial constraints, career demands, and family responsibilities often make it difficult to step away and recharge.
Just in time for the festive season, Corona has unveiled its Corona Sunsets Summer Tour, offering weekend getaway experiences at iconic locations such as Villa Paradiso at Hartbeespoort; Nirox Sculpture Park at the Cradle of Humankind, and Stanley Island in Plettenberg Bay. In addition, the Corona Sunsets Summer Tour will host events at 30 locations across the country as single-day getaways.
In addition, Corona has partnered with TripAdvisor to launch “Sunset Spots”, a curated guide featuring 80 handpicked bars and restaurants offering South Africa’s most breathtaking sunset views.
Renowned for its natural beauty and world-class sunset destinations, South Africa offers countless places to relax during the golden hour. Curated with expert guidance from TripAdvisor, one of the world’s most trusted travel platforms, each spot has been chosen for its unique ability to elevate the sunset experience—whether it’s a serene beachfront bar, a vibrant rooftop terrace, or a cozy city-center restaurant.

The survey was carried out as an integral component of a vibrant digital out-of-home (DOOH) campaign that took place in bustling urban areas throughout South Africa, captivating participants through a visually striking and interactive approach.
In total, 772 individuals took part in the survey, with the majority of responses coming from Gauteng (73.05%), highlighting the province's dynamic lifestyle and its residents' significant need for relaxation.
A significant 99.48% of participants indicated a desire for a holiday, while a mere 0.52% expressed no need for one.
Regarding the timing of their last break, 76% of respondents reported that they had not taken a holiday in over a year. Smaller groups noted that they had taken breaks within the last month, three months, or six months.

The survey was conducted through digital outdoor screens strategically placed in prominent locations, encouraging commuters and pedestrians to engage over a month-long period from October 23 to November 30, 2024.
