During the 30-minute segment, host Larry Madowo will engage with Hounsou, who hails from Benin Republic, discussing his remarkable journey and his efforts to connect the Black diaspora with its heritage through the Djimon Hounsou Foundation.
The 60-year-old star actor, Hounsou made his acting debut in the 1990 film Without You, I’m Nothing, and has since gained acclaim for his performances in notable films such as Amistad (1997), Gladiator (2000), and the French film Forces speciales (2011), among others. His exceptional talent has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Drama and the NAACP Image Award in 1998 for his role in Amistad. Additionally, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2004 and an Outstanding Performance Award for Blood Diamond in 2007.
Significantly, Hounsou has utilized his philanthropic efforts, such as Run Richmond 16.19, to connect history, culture, and community, aiming to unite the African diaspora and celebrate African heritage.
African Voices Changemakers will air on CNN channel 401 on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with a repeat at noon. Additional broadcasts will take place on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., and on Monday at 4 a.m. The same schedule will continue for repeat editions next week starting Saturday.
