The governing body has acted promptly, suspending the football federations of Congo and Pakistan effective immediately, which prevents both nations from competing in the 2026 World Cup.
The Congolese Football Association (FECOFOOT) faces suspension due to "a particularly serious situation of undue interference by third parties" in its operations.
FIFA's statement highlighted that this interference is a direct violation of FECOFOOT's responsibilities under the FIFA Statutes.
"The decision was taken in consultation with CAF after two FIFA/CAF missions were dispatched to Brazzaville," the statement noted.
In addition, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has been suspended for not adopting a revised constitution that guarantees "truly fair and democratic elections."
The suspension will be lifted only if the PFF Congress ratifies the version of the PFF Constitution proposed by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Haroon Malik, Chairman of the PFF Normalisation Committee, stated that FIFA seeks to amend the PFF Constitution to align it with international standards.
However, the newly-elected members of the PFF Congress have not accepted FIFA's recommendations.
Russia is the third nation suspended by FIFA following its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Currently, Congo is at the bottom of Group E in the CAF qualification standings, while Pakistan finished last in Group G during the second round of the AFC qualification process.
