K-drama actress Kim Sae-ron has sadly died by suicide, according to police who found her body in her Seoul home on Sunday.

The 24-year-old star of Bloodhounds was discovered by a friend who alerted the authorities. Police believe she made this tragic decision and are treating it as a suicide, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

Kim was considered a rising talent in South Korea, but her career faced challenges following a drink-driving incident in 2022. After being fined approximately £11,000, she found it difficult to secure new roles. She began her career at nine years old and appeared in various films and television shows.

Before her death, Kim shared a poignant Instagram post about another tragic K-pop star, Moonbin, to honor what would have been his 27th birthday. Moonbin, a popular member of the boy band Astro, was found dead in his Gangnam-gu apartment in 2023, with authorities investigating it as a suspected suicide.

Kim and Moonbin acted together in the 2015 web series To Be Continued, which also included other Astro members. On his birthday, she posted pictures of them from the series with the brief message "HBD."

Kim gained fame as a child actor in the 2009 film A Brand New Life and in the 2010 movie The Man From Nowhere. Her first adult role was in the 2016 drama Secret Healer, and she appeared in the 2018 thriller The Villagers.

In May 2022, she was involved in a drink-driving incident, resulting in a fine that came in April the following year. After the incident, her role in Bloodhounds was reduced due to public backlash, making it her final project.

In a contemporaneous statement, Kim expressed deep regret and offered a formal apology to the production team.

She wrote: 'I had an accident yesterday on May 18, around 8 am in Gangnam, I made a big mistake by being drunk at that time.

'I am also very sorry to the production crew, including fellow actors and staff, for interrupting the production of the work that is being shot and the work that was being prepared.

'Once again, I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience.

'There is no excuse for this unfortunate incident and I am disappointed and so ashamed of my mistake.

'I will reflect and reflect again and again so that this never happens again. I'm sorry.'
