Nigerian Afrobeats artist Adekunle Gold, whose full name is Adekunle Kosoko, has shared his thoughts on the troubling trend of unsuitable leaders in the Nigerian music scene.

In a post on his X account this past Saturday, the ‘Sade’ hitmaker pointed out that those at the helm of the industry lack a genuine passion for music.

He believes that these misguided leaders are spreading misleading ideas about the music business, which leads to true talent being overlooked while mediocrity flourishes.

Adekunle Gold emphasized that artists, producers, and other creatives are being overshadowed by individuals who neither create nor appreciate the art of music.

He stated, “People who have no business leading music conversations are now controlling and destroying the industry.

“Artists, producers, and real contributors are being overshadowed by people who don’t create, don’t understand, and don’t respect the craft.

“When the wrong people lead the conversation, they push the wrong narratives. That’s why real talent is overlooked and mediocrity thrives. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

On another note, Adekunle Gold and White House Productions are teaming up to create a documentary that will explore a century of Yoruba music.

Titled The Odyssey, the film will delve into the history and evolution of various subcultures within Yoruba music, such as Were, Sakara, Apala, Juju, AfroJuju, and Fuji.

With a talented team of producers led by executive producer Bobo Omotayo, The Odyssey is already making waves in the music community.

Currently in production, the documentary aims to provide an insightful look into the cultural heritage and musical traditions of the Yoruba people.

The documentary, helmed by the talented Abba T. Makama and produced by Omotayo, takes you on a deep dive into the vibrant world of Yoruba music. It showcases its rich history and the significant impact it has had on the global music landscape, especially in the rise of Afrobeats.

Adekunle Gold will join forces with Tosin Ashafa, Papa Omotayo, and Makama for this project. His industry expertise, connections, and passion for Yoruba music will definitely add depth to the documentary’s narrative.

This powerhouse team is dedicated to delivering an engaging and authentic exploration of our heritage, culture, and future.

The Odyssey will highlight some of Nigeria’s most respected music historians, scholars, hit-making artists, legendary musicians, influential producers, record label executives, and music journalists, spanning both past and present.
