The club revealed on Wednesday, February 12, that Tems, through her company The Leading Vibe, has entered into a partnership with them.
In 2021, Tems collaborated with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm noted for its role in NBA Africa’s strategic investment initiatives.
“I am excited to join the ownership group of San Diego FC and to be part of a club that values creativity, culture, and community,” Tems stated in the press release. “Soccer has a remarkable ability to unite people, and I look forward to contributing to something extraordinary in San Diego, a city that embodies diversity and innovation.”
Tems joins a growing ownership group at San Diego FC that includes actress and producer Issa Rae, who was also recently announced as a club partner.
In 2021, Tems formed a partnership with Pave Investments, which is recognized for its involvement in NBA Africa’s strategic investment group.
Tunde Folawiyo, chairman of Pave Investments, along with Kwamena Afful, the firm’s founding director, are also included in the new ownership structure at San Diego FC.
The announcement highlighted that Tems’ status as a global cultural icon aligns with the club’s goal of bringing communities together through soccer while fostering creativity and empowerment.
The new ownership additions are intended to amplify the influence of San Diego FC and its partner, Right to Dream Academy, a program dedicated to youth football development.“Tems is an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide. We are honored to have her join our Club and bring her visionary perspective to San Diego FC,” said SDFC CEO Tom Penn. “Her passion for empowering the next generation aligns perfectly with our mission, and her commitment to creating opportunities for young talent domestically and globally reflects the core values of Right to Dream. We also look forward to creating meaningful connections between the music world and San Diego FC, uniting communities through the shared power of culture and sport.”
