Speaking on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay, Amber admitted she was initially unaware of Kanye’s intentions. “He flew me out to do the Robocop video because he was like, ‘You look like a robot, I think this would be cool.’ And I said, ‘Absolutely, you’re Kanye West, of course I’ll come out to shoot the video. It would be an honor,’” she recalled.
From Professional to Personal: A Shift in Dynamics
Amber flew from New York to Los Angeles for the video shoot, but things took an unexpected turn. “I go to LA, and we’re hanging out at night. I meet him, and he’s on another video set. And I’m like, ‘Okay, so what time should I be ready tomorrow? Is a car going to…’ you know, because I’m so used to the other videos I’ve done before,” she explained.
Host Shannon Sharpe suggested Amber was “keeping it professional,” to which she agreed, adding, “And he’s like, ‘Nah, nah, just chill, we’re going to figure it out.’ So then a day goes by, and then another day goes by. We’re going out to dinners… we’re doing everything but shooting the video!”
Amber revealed that Kanye seemed more interested in spending time with her socially than focusing on the video. “I only brought one outfit because that’s what I was used to – you fly in, you do the video, you have an outfit to go back on the plane and go home,” she said. Kanye reassured her, saying, “You don’t need no outfit, don’t even worry about it, I got you.”
A Surprise Invitation to the Grammys
On her fourth day in LA, Kanye surprised Amber with an invitation to the Grammys. “He’s like, ‘I know this is crazy, but do you want to come to the Grammys with me?’” she recounted. Amber admitted she was naive at the time, not realizing the implications of being “flown out” in Hollywood.
“I was so young, Shannon. I’m like, ‘Are we still doing this video?’ I did not realize I got flown out. I did not know that. I was so green. I didn’t realize that he really flew me out because he saw me in the video and thought I was hot and then he flew me out. But I didn’t know,” she confessed.
After the Grammys, Amber had to leave for a funeral, but Kanye’s interest in her only grew stronger. During her absence, he called her multiple times a day and eventually urged her to move to LA to be with him. When Amber mentioned needing to pack her belongings, Kanye told her not to worry about it, promising to provide everything she needed if she returned as soon as possible.
