Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon has unveiled a fascinating behind-the-scenes story about KCee’s 2013 smash hit, 'Limpopo'. According to Soberekon, the song was initially intended to feature global superstar Beyoncé, but the collaboration never came to fruition.

'Limpopo', released by Nigerian artist KCee, became an instant sensation, catapulting him to stardom and cementing his place as one of the country’s top musicians. However, the track’s journey to success almost took a completely different turn.

In a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Soberekon revealed that the song was originally planned as a collaboration between KCee and Beyoncé. He explained that a billionaire, eager to bring Beyoncé to Nigeria, approached them with the idea. Although the billionaire had no background in entertainment, he enlisted Soberekon and his team to help make the vision a reality.

'Limpopo' was supposed to be a song by KCee featuring Beyoncé, Soberekon disclosed. “There was a billionaire who wanted to bring Beyoncé to Nigeria. He didn’t know much about the entertainment industry, so he asked us to accompany him to New York to negotiate the deal. We went to Jay-Z’s club to gather information on how to contact Beyoncé. Eventually, we connected with an agent to discuss the collaboration.”

The proposed deal included Beyoncé visiting Nigeria for a concert, a meet-and-greet event, and a feature on a song with KCee. “The agent told us they would get back to us,” Soberekon recalled.

With high hopes for the collaboration, the team returned to Nigeria and began working on the song. “The billionaire asked us to create a track that would feature Beyoncé,” Soberekon explained. “So, we recorded *Limpopo* with the expectation that Beyoncé would be on it. It was a leap of faith, but we didn’t realize the song would become such a massive hit on its own.”

Unfortunately, the collaboration fell through. Soberekon recounted the moment they received the disappointing news: “The agent called us and broke our hearts, informing us that Beyoncé wouldn’t be staying in Nigeria but in Ghana. Since the main deal was for her to come to Nigeria for a show, and the song feature was just a bonus, we couldn’t proceed with the plan in Ghana. Ultimately, we released the song without her, and it became a huge hit.”

Despite the missed opportunity to feature Beyoncé, 'Limpopo' went on to dominate the airwaves, becoming one of the most iconic Afrobeats tracks of its time. Soberekon’s revelation offers a fascinating glimpse into what could have been, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the music industry.
