Chelsea fans have urged the Premier League to investigate co-owner Todd Boehly over his connection to Vivid Seats, a ticket resale platform that lists Premier League tickets at highly inflated prices.

Boehly, who helped acquire Chelsea for $2.5 billion in 2022, is on the board of directors of Vivid Seats—a company the Premier League has warned fans against, citing it as an “unauthorized ticket website”.

Conflict of Interest?

The Chelsea Supporters Trust (CST) published an open letter to Premier League CEO Richard Masters, calling for action.

“Vivid Seats continues to list Premier League tickets for above face value at significantly inflated rates. Our members have indicated that Mr. Boehly’s connection with Vivid Seats is a breach of trust and a clear conflict of interest.”

The CST argues that the resale platform undermines efforts by Chelsea FC, the Premier League, and law enforcement to combat ticket touting (scalping).

Sky-High Ticket Prices

Vivid Seats lists Chelsea match tickets at several times their face value, including:

  • £990 ($1,275) for a match against Ipswich
  • Over £3,000 ($3,800) for a May 3 showdown with Liverpool

In contrast, the highest general admission price on Chelsea’s official website is £80 ($103).

Premier League and Chelsea's Stance on Unauthorized Sales

The Premier League warns fans that purchasing from unauthorized sources can result in denied entry and financial loss.

Chelsea FC also describes ticket resale as an “increasing problem” and asks fans to report concerns, stating:

“It is illegal to sell, or to offer to sell, tickets to Chelsea Football Club matches without the authorization of the club.”

The Associated Press has reached out to Chelsea, Boehly’s representatives, and the Premier League for comment, but no response has been issued yet.
