Dr. Bello, representing the North-East, was confirmed alongside five Non-Executive Directors during Wednesday’s plenary session. The newly appointed directors include Yusuf Sule (North-Central), Adeyemo Stephen (South-West), Yahaya Ibrahim (North-West), Odion Iyare (South-South), and Emily Osuji (South-East).
The confirmation followed a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, presented by Senator Osita Izunaso (APC-Imo), who cited the nominees’ strong qualifications and clean records.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the committee’s thorough vetting process and expressed confidence in AMCON’s new leadership.
Meanwhile, AMCON’s Head of Corporate Communications, Jude Nwauzor, reiterated the agency’s challenges in recovering debts, warning that unpaid obligations could ultimately fall on taxpayers. He called for media scrutiny to expose high-profile debtors who continue to lead extravagant lifestyles despite owing billions.
With the newly confirmed leadership, AMCON is expected to ramp up efforts in debt recovery and financial stability in Nigeria’s banking sector.
