Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat, Bunmi Olowookere, Dr Mahmoud emphasized that the primary objective of the expo was to showcase the diverse investment opportunities and significant economic growth potential that reside within the various area councils of the FCT.
She highlighted the Administration's commitment to revitalizing the economy, fostering inclusive community development, and generating sustainable wealth within the FCT, all aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. This, she noted, would be achieved through the celebration and promotion of indigenous culture, business, and innovation.
Dr Mahmoud revealed that the FCT Administration, under the leadership of Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike, had received a clear mandate from the President to develop and unlock the cultural, tourism, and hospitality assets of the FCT. The goal is to position the territory as a competitive player alongside other prominent tourist and hospitality destinations globally.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the area councils, the Minister stated that these local administrative units hold the majority of the untapped potential and investment opportunities crucial for realizing the Administration's directives. She commended the Tourism Department of the Social Development Secretariat for initiating the expo.
Furthermore, Dr Mahmoud assured that the Administration would actively encourage innovative ideas, support relevant initiatives, foster collaborative partnerships, and participate in exhibitions aimed at deepening and nurturing the revitalization of the FCT's tourism and hospitality sector. The ultimate aim is to establish the FCT as a preferred destination for tourists and a prime investment haven for both domestic and international investors.
On his part, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Social Development Secretariat, Hon. Aminu Ibrahim, underscored the significant contribution of the tourism sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of many countries that have strategically invested in it.
Represented by the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr Nasiru Shidali, Hon. Ibrahim affirmed that Abuja stands as one of the fastest-growing and developing cities, open for business and brimming with substantial opportunities awaiting exploration and investment.
He emphasized the undeniable role of tourism and hospitality as major drivers of employment. "It is in line with the above objectives that the FCT Administration, in tandem with the federal government Renewed Hope Agenda mantra, is anxious in creating an investment-friendly environment," Hon. Ibrahim stated.
He concluded by asserting that the expo itself exemplifies the Administration's dedication to promoting the growth and development of the tourism and hospitality sector within the FCT, recognizing the crucial role of arts, culture, and tourism in revenue generation, job creation, and urban regeneration. Hon. Ibrahim also highlighted Abuja's strategic location and expanding population as key factors making the Territory an attractive prospect for investors, businesses, and various stakeholders.
