The American Music Awards 2025, broadcast live from Las Vegas and produced by Dick Clark Productions, celebrated a stellar year in music, with Billie Eilish emerging as the night's biggest winner. Eilish swept all seven categories in which she was nominated, including the coveted Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her critically acclaimed "Hit Me Hard and Soft."
Eilish's impressive haul also included Favorite Touring Artist, Favorite Female Pop Artist, and Favorite Pop Album for "Hit Me Hard and Soft." Her track "Birds of a Feather" secured wins for both Song of the Year and Favorite Pop Song, solidifying her pervasive influence across the pop landscape.
Beyoncé made her mark in the country categories, taking home awards for Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album for her groundbreaking "Cowboy Carter." Post Malone celebrated his first country win, earning Favorite Male Country Artist, signaling a successful crossover for the versatile artist. Meanwhile, Eminem broke a 15-year AMAs silence, securing Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album for "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)."
The night also saw Gracie Abrams recognized as New Artist of the Year, while the collaborative smash "Die With a Smile" earned Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars the awards for Favorite Music Video and Collaboration of the Year. Gaga also triumphed individually as Favorite Dance/Electronic Artist, and Mars claimed Favorite Male Pop Artist.
Veteran entertainer Jennifer Lopez made a grand return to host the AMAs for the first time in a decade, kicking off the evening with an energetic dance medley featuring 23 of the past year's biggest hits.
Icons Honored: Janet Jackson and Rod Stewart
The ceremony paid tribute to musical legends with two prestigious awards. Janet Jackson was presented with the Icon Award, marking her first televised performance in seven years. Taking the stage in a casual yet iconic white jacket and baggy jeans, Jackson delivered a medley of her hits, including "Someone to Call My Lover" (with a nod to Mariah Carey's "Shake It Off") and "All For You."
Upon accepting her award, Jackson humbly stated that fame was never the primary goal of her musical journey. "No disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon. My family, myself, our dream wasn’t ever to be famous. We weren’t raised like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing and singing, and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication," she shared, emphasizing her family's "American story" and expressing hope that her career has inspired others to pursue their dreams.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Rod Stewart, who received the honor from five of his children in a heartwarming surprise. Stewart closed the show with a rendition of his classic "Forever Young." A visibly "flabbergasted" Stewart remarked, "When I started singing in the early 60s, well before all of you lot were here, the reason I got into it was because I had this burning ambition to sing. That’s all I wanted to do. I didn’t want to be rich or famous, and so many years later, I’m here."
Memorable Performances Light Up the Stage
The evening was punctuated by a series of captivating performances. Blake Shelton opened the show with his song "Stay Country or Die Tryin'," followed by Lainey Wilson keeping the country momentum alive with her new single "Somewhere Over Laredo." Gwen Stefani delivered a medley that included her new single "Swallow My Tears," alongside fan favorites "The Sweet Escape" and "Hollaback Girl."
High-energy performances included Benson Boone's "Mystical Magical," complete with backflips, and Renee Rapp's debut of her new single "Leave Me Alone." The legendary Gloria Estefan brought the house down with a medley of "Rhythm is Gonna Get You," "La Vecina (No Sé Na’)," and "Conga." The night also featured performances from Alex Warren with "Ordinary" and a dynamic duet from Becky G and Manuel Turizo performing their new song "Que Haces."
