The announcement was made in Lagos on Tuesday by NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, who explained that the Presidency has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the platform for official identity checks going forward.
According to Adegoke, NINAuth aligns with NIMC’s mandate to deliver a dependable and privacy-conscious digital ID infrastructure for Nigerian citizens and legal residents. The service is available through web portals, mobile applications, and API integrations, offering flexible access while maintaining robust data protection standards.
“This initiative is a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focused on modernising identity management in Nigeria,” Adegoke stated. He emphasized that the platform is designed to empower individuals by giving them control over how their personal information is used and shared.
One of the core features of NINAuth is its requirement for user consent before data is utilized for services such as Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other identity checks. This approach fosters trust in the system and encourages transparency in how personal data is handled.
Through NINAuth, Nigerians can verify their identity for a range of essential services including SIM registration, SIM replacement, passport applications, tax filings, and financial transactions. The platform will also be integral to government welfare programs, driver’s license renewals, and various other official processes.
Adegoke highlighted several benefits of the service, including enhanced data security, protection against unauthorized access, and user-friendly controls for data sharing preferences. Additionally, a single sign-on feature simplifies access to multiple services from a unified interface.
Designed to be secure, scalable, and interoperable, NINAuth supports real-time NIN record verification, promoting better compliance and service efficiency across sectors. Its API integration capability ensures seamless connectivity with other platforms and systems.
The Federal Government's endorsement of NINAuth underscores its commitment to strengthening digital identity systems and safeguarding citizen data in an increasingly interconnected world.
