Houston-Based Afro-Fusion Artist AQT Launches ‘Camp Lagos’ to Foster African-International Music Collaboration
In a groundbreaking initiative, Houston-based Nigerian Afro-fusion artist and entrepreneur Abdul Quam Tadese, known professionally as AQT, has launched Camp Lagos—an innovative program aimed at fostering business empowerment and global collaboration in the music industry.
The first-of-its-kind event brought together a diverse array of artists, music executives, and industry professionals for an immersive experience centered on music production, cultural exchange, and strategic business development.
Partnering with Scorp, a multi-platinum American producer, AQT curated a multifaceted camp that went beyond the studio. The program offered invaluable insights into music business law, contracts, and intellectual property—essential knowledge for emerging and established artists alike.
The camp’s creative lineup featured prominent African talents such as Ayanfe, a standout artist affiliated with Davido’s DMW collective, known for his melodic finesse; Ceeza Milli, a respected singer-songwriter closely associated with Wizkid, recognized for his lyrical prowess; and Tunde Phoenix, former manager of neo-fuji global star Asake and a leading music strategist.
Executives from Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa also contributed, emphasizing the importance of mentorship, artist development, and long-term strategic planning. Their participation underscored the camp’s commitment to nurturing talent and building sustainable careers in music.
In AQT’s words:
“The creative roster featured an impressive lineup of talent from the African music scene. Ayanfe contributed his melodic finesse, Ceeza Milli brought lyrical depth, and Tunde Phoenix shared strategic expertise. With support from emPawa Africa, Camp Lagos is not just about making music—it’s about building futures.”
Camp Lagos marks a significant step toward deepening the ties between African and global music communities—blending creativity with business acumen to empower the next generation of music leaders.
