Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has affirmed the state's commitment to fostering the growth of promising athletes identified during the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF). Scheduled to run from May 16th to 30th, the festival is anticipated to be a crucial platform for discovering emerging sporting talents.

Speaking to members of the press in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun drew a parallel with the state's previous support for global athletics icon Tobi Amusan, a Commonwealth Games champion and world record holder. He underscored the state's intention to continue this tradition of backing its athletes as they strive for international success in their chosen disciplines.

"We firmly believe that the National Sports Festival serves as a vital talent identification ground," Governor Abiodun stated. "Here in Ogun State, our dedication lies in pinpointing and cultivating these raw talents, nurturing them into becoming world-class champions."

He proudly highlighted Ogun State's rich history of producing exceptional athletes who have achieved global recognition. "The Gateway State boasts a legacy of nurturing world-class athletes, and we are resolute in upholding this tradition, continuing to produce more champions like Amusan who will represent not only our state but also our nation on the world stage," the Governor asserted.

Beyond the pursuit of athletic excellence, Governor Abiodun also emphasised the significant life lessons inherent in sports. He lauded sports as a powerful unifying force within Nigeria. "Sports possess an unparalleled ability to unite Nigeria," he observed. "Whenever a Nigerian team competes, the entire nation rallies in support, transcending tribal boundaries. This National Sports Festival will undoubtedly play its part in fostering unity among the youth of our country."

Expressing confidence in the Ogun State contingent participating in the festival, Governor Abiodun conveyed an ambitious yet determined goal. "Our aspiration extends beyond simply hosting the NSF," he declared. "Our aim is to achieve victory, to secure more gold medals than any other participating state this year." This bold declaration signals Ogun State's intent to not only provide a welcoming environment for the national sporting event but also to showcase the depth of its own athletic prowess. The upcoming National Sports Festival promises to be a significant event, potentially launching the careers of future sporting stars under the watchful eye and supportive hand of Ogun State.
