Thirteen-year-old Michelle Ibidapo, a talented student from The Grange School, Ikeja, has captured the gold medal in the women's 1,500m freestyle event at the ongoing Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival. Representing Team Oyo, Ibidapo's victory marks a significant moment for the young swimmer, who is rapidly emerging as one of Nigeria's most promising aquatic talents.

Ibidapo's journey to this national triumph began when she was discovered at the National Youth Games in Asaba. Since then, she has steadily ascended through the ranks of Nigeria’s competitive swimming scene, demonstrating remarkable dedication and skill. Her gold medal win in Shagamu is a testament to her rapid development and burgeoning potential.

Speaking after her impressive performance, Michelle shared her mindset approaching the competition: “Coming into this competition, I was focused. I had my mind on winning a medal, even though I wasn’t sure what colour. During the last lap, I reminded myself to stay focused, and by the end, it turned into gold.” Her words reflect a maturity and determination beyond her years, crucial attributes for success in high-level sports.
