Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has adjourned further proceedings in the ongoing criminal trial involving music executive Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, until September 26, 2025.

Eezee Tee—who is also the founder of Eezee Global Concepts Limited and formerly managed award-winning gospel singer Mercy Chinwo—is currently facing a seven-count amended charge brought by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges border on alleged foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering involving several hundred thousand U.S. dollars. According to the EFCC, one of the charges alleges that the defendant, not being a licensed foreign exchange dealer as approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), conducted a foreign currency transaction in violation of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act.

Initially arraigned before Justice Owoeye, the matter was subsequently reassigned to Justice Aneke for continuation.

At the resumed hearing on Friday, the EFCC—represented by prosecuting counsel Bilkisu Buhari-Bala—called its first witness, Mohammed Timta. However, defence counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), informed the court that both parties were in advanced stages of settlement talks.

“We are close to reaching a settlement,” Ojukwu said, requesting additional time to finalize discussions. He added that should the negotiations fall through, the defence was prepared for the prosecution to proceed with full trial.

Justice Aneke, after listening to both sides, granted the request and adjourned the matter until September 26, 2025, for further hearing.

The case remains one of the more high-profile legal entanglements in Nigeria’s gospel music sector, drawing attention due to the prominence of the accused and the serious nature of the financial allegations.
