Renowned Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune has paid tribute to late rapper Dagrin, revealing the deep respect he holds for the iconic artist and recalling a memorable recording experience that left a lasting impression on him.

Speaking in an interview with HipTV, Neptune praised Dagrin’s lyrical prowess and studio presence, describing him as one of the most talented rappers he has ever worked with.

“If there’s one artist I respect so much, it’s Da Grin. When we recorded the remix of ‘123,’ he delivered his verse in 8 minutes,” Neptune recounted, expressing amazement at the late rapper’s speed and confidence during the session.

The track “123 (Remix)” was one of the early cross-genre collaborations that highlighted Dagrin’s ability to blend Yoruba rap with mainstream hip-hop. His contribution to the track further cemented his reputation as a trailblazer in indigenous rap.

Dagrin, who passed away in 2010, remains a respected figure in Nigerian music history. His 2009 album, “CEO (Chief Executive Omo-Ita),” received widespread acclaim and gained posthumous success, contributing to the growth of vernacular rap in Nigeria’s music industry.
