Veteran Nollywood actor Fatai Adekunle Adetayo, a.k.a Lalude has spoken out about his experience campaigning for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2023 general elections, revealing that he and other colleagues received only ₦10,000 daily for feeding during the period.

Frustration Over Unfulfilled Promises

In a video interview now circulating on social media, Lalude expressed regret and disappointment over the economic hardship faced since Tinubu’s election victory. He explained that he and his colleagues campaigned for a month and three weeks without any formal payment beyond the daily feeding stipend.

“They were giving us ₦10,000 daily for feeding. It was supposed to be more than that for campaign opportunities, but they decided to be giving us ₦10,000,” he said.

Allegations of Reduced and Withheld Payments

Lalude claimed that once organizers realized some of the actors were saving the money, the amount was reduced, and there were days when no stipend was given at all.

“When they get to know that we are saving the money, they reduced the amount and sometimes they won’t even give us for like two to three days,” he recounted.

He further lamented that despite the intense campaign period, they received no final payment or reward even two years after the election.

“After the whole campaign job for a month and three weeks, they refused to pay us for it. Those withholding our financial benefits for the campaign will not be fortunate for the rest of their life,” he added.

Other Actors Share Regrets

Lalude’s comments come just days after fellow veteran actor Alapini publicly expressed regret over supporting Tinubu during the campaign, reflecting wider frustration among some of the entertainers involved.

Celebrity Support for Tinubu Sparked Backlash

The 2023 elections saw several prominent Nigerian actors and entertainers openly declare their support for Tinubu, including Saheed Balogun, Bimbo Akintola, Toyin Abraham, Eniola Badmus, Olaiya Igwe, and Seyi Law, among others.

Their endorsements were controversial, drawing criticism from many Nigerians angered by growing economic hardship and insecurity under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, first led by Muhammadu Buhari and now by Tinubu. Some celebrities even faced backlash online, with fans unfollowing them and questioning their political choices.
