A Memorable Encounter with a Football Legend

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has opened up about a memorable post-match experience with global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2020/2021 Serie A season.

In an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Osimhen shared how he waited nearly an hour just to take a selfie with the Portuguese superstar after Napoli’s 1–0 victory over Juventus.

Ronaldo's Invitation and Osimhen’s Long Wait

According to the Nigerian international, the encounter took place after the hard-fought match in which Napoli secured a narrow win over Ronaldo’s then team, Juventus. After the game, Osimhen approached Ronaldo and politely asked for a photo.

“I said to him, ‘Chris, I would like to take a picture with you.’ He said, ‘Yeah, come to the dressing room,’” Osimhen recounted.

Still dressed in his match kit, the Napoli forward rushed to Juventus’ dressing room area, where he was redirected by legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Buffon's Help and Ronaldo’s Workout Routine

Osimhen said Buffon noticed him and asked what he was doing there. After explaining, Buffon informed him that Ronaldo was in the gym and invited him to sit and wait. The two chatted while Ronaldo continued working out.

“We were just talking, it was almost 30 minutes, he was not out yet. I waited for one hour, he was still working out,” Osimhen said, recalling Ronaldo’s intense post-match fitness routine.

A Lasting Impression

Eventually, Ronaldo emerged and warmly welcomed Osimhen, offering more than just a quick selfie.

“He said, ‘Great game, just keep on going,’ and I shook his hand,” Osimhen shared. “He even encouraged me to take more photos.”

The Nigerian striker described the former Juventus forward as “a great personality,” noting that no one is surprised by Ronaldo’s continued excellence on and off the pitch.
