When the sixth leg of the 2025 Diamond League touches down in Oslo, Norway this Thursday, fans can expect a dazzling night of elite athletics—but with a notable absence: no Nigerian athletes will feature in the event.

Scheduled to take place at the iconic Bislett Stadium, the Oslo stop of the Diamond League will host 14 world-class events, drawing global attention as athletes continue their build-up to the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Nine Olympic champions from the Paris 2024 Games are expected to grace the track and field in what promises to be one of the season's most competitive meets.

Among the missing names is Nigeria’s hurdling sensation Tobi Amusan, who recently impressed at the Rabat leg of the Diamond League with a season-best and meet record of 12.45 seconds in the 100m hurdles. However, Oslo’s programme will not feature the women’s 100m hurdles, ruling out her participation. Similarly, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Nigeria’s top shot putter, will also be absent as the men's shot put event is not on the Oslo schedule. Enekwechi had competed in both Rabat and Rome, placing 7th and 8th respectively with throws just above the 21m mark.

Despite the absence of Nigerian athletes, the meet boasts a host of major matchups:

  • Men’s 400m Hurdles Showdown: Olympic medalists Rai Benjamin (USA), Karsten Warholm (Norway), and Alison dos Santos (Brazil) will renew their epic rivalry—albeit over an unusual 300m hurdles distance, marking their first meeting since last year's legendary final.

  • Pole Vault Spectacle: World record holder and reigning Olympic champion Armand "Mondo" Duplantis of Sweden will headline a stacked men’s pole vault field.

  • Women’s 100m Sprint Battle: St. Lucia’s Olympic champion Julien Alfred is set to make her Diamond League debut for 2025. She leads a strong field including Dina Asher-Smith (GBR), Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith (CIV), and Zaynab Dosso (ITA). Alfred will also compete again three days later in Stockholm.

  • Triple Jump Elite Field: All six medallists from the Paris Olympics and Nanjing World Indoor Championships will face off, including Thea LaFond, Shanieka Ricketts, Jasmine Moore, Leyanis Perez Hernandez, Liadagmis Povea, and Ana Peleteiro-Compaore.

  • Women’s Steeplechase Duel: Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi returns to the spotlight to face Faith Cherotich of Kenya—who defeated her in their previous Diamond League meeting in Doha.

  • 400m Women’s Race: Poland’s Olympic and world medalist Natalia Kaczmarek (not Bukowiecka as initially listed) will line up against a formidable quartet—Rhasidat Adeleke, Sada Williams, Lieke Klaver, and Henriette Jæger.

  • Men’s 200m Clash: Canada’s Andre De Grasse headlines the event alongside compatriot Aaron Brown, Kyree King, Joseph Fahnbulleh, and Reynier Mena.

With world-class talent spread across sprints, hurdles, jumps, and distance events, Thursday’s Oslo Diamond League promises thrills and fast times. And although Team Nigeria won’t be represented this time around, their top stars will be watching—and waiting—to rejoin the circuit ahead of Tokyo 2025.
